BX8 shipments were scheduled to start some time ago. However the market for small Logic Analyzers is now flooded - entry level products on ebay start at around $20 - so we will not bring the BX8 to market as originally planned. We continue to experiment with software solutions and a BX8 solution may emerge.

BX8 - 8 Channel 1GHz Logic Analyzer

Description

Saving time. That's what the BX8 is all about. When the fastest way forwards is to see exactly what is going on in the circuit before you. And affordable!

You use a logic analyzer when you need to see signals the same way your digital circuit sees them, when you need the option of complex triggering, and when you need many channels. These are the tasks that the BX8 excels at.

A logic analyzer is essentially a multi-channel version of a digital oscilloscope, with the difference that a logic analyzer recognises two logic levels - 0 and 1. And the BX8 implements much more complex triggering than oscilloscopes.

Features:

  • 1GHz sampling speed
  • Ultra-portable - fits in a pocket
  • Powered from USB port - no additional power supply required
  • 8 Signal inputs, at least 8K samples deep, with advanced sample compression
  • Separate Trigger Out connection
  • Runs on any recent version of Windows or Linux, with other platforms coming soon
  • Simple or Complex triggering
  • Software upgradeable
  • View captured traces on the display of your PC or other device

A standout feature of the BX8 is the built-in sample compression. The eight input channels on the BX8 are divided into two groups, each group having four channels. All input channels are sampled simultaneously, and then each 4-channel group is compressed separately by storing repeated value counts. This means that unused channel groups require very little storage. If only one channel group is active, virtually the entire storage is devoted to that group, allowing the instrument to store 8K transitions, which can easily be millions of samples.

Control Panel Software

  • Familiar Web Browser interface
  • Data saved as plain text or in CSV format
  • Step-by-step instrument setup and trigger setup.
  • Upgradeable via the internet

Computer Requirements

  • USB socket. Either a USB socket on a computer or a socket on a powered USB Hub
  • Windows (XP or later) or Linux. OS-X and Android version to follow.

What you get

BX8 Instrument Only

  • 1x assembled and tested BX8 Logic Analyzer Board

BX8 plus USB Cable plus Probe Cable

  • 1x assembled and tested BX8 Logic Analyzer Board
  • 1x 50cm micro-USB cable
  • 1x 20cm (8") strip, with ten rainbow colored wires. Each wire is terminated at each end with a 0.1" housing.

Micro-USB is the cable used on most modern smart phones, tablets and e-readers. We include a short (50cm) cable. You will probably want to swap this short cable with a longer lead from your cable collection. We do not include a long lead - such a lead would add significantly to the shipping weight and the overwhelming majority of users already possess a micro-USB lead of a suitable length.

BX8 plus USB Cable plus Probe Cable plus Grabbers

  • 1x assembled and tested BX8 Logic Analyzer Board
  • 1x 50cm micro-USB cable
  • 1x 20cm (8") strip, with ten rainbow colored wires. Each wire is terminated at each end with a 0.1" housing.
  • 2x five piece color coded grabber sets. These are designed to plug onto the ends of the cables. Each grabber set contains five grabbers, one black, one red, one yellow, one green, and one blue. So the kit contains ten grabbers, two of each color.
