BX16 Specification

Additional technical information is presented in the FAQ section.

The BX16 has 16 signal inputs and a Trigger Out connection. It operates at up to 1GHz, 16 bits wide. Transition sampling records data when the inputs change so that slowly changing signals can be sampled at high speed (with corresponding enhanced accuracy) over long periods without running out of acquisition memory space.

Acquisition Logic

Sample Rate

1GHz maximum, simultaneous on all channels. 1KHz minimum. Both of the common timing sequences are supported - the 5-2-1 sequence of frequencies (for instance 5MHz, 2MHz, 1MHz) and the 1-2-4 sequence of times (for instance 10ns, 20ns, 40ns)

Acquisition Memory Depth

8K slots. Transition sampling compresses repeated samples by up to 64K samples per group of eight slots. Each 8-bit byte is compressed separately, so an inactive byte ocupies very few slots. See also the Sample Compression entry in the technicalFAQ

Threshold

0.8V to 2.5V, in steps of 0.1V. Compatible with 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V logic families and logic levels.

Minimum Input

0.5V below threshold for Lo, 0.5V above threshold for Hi

Trigger Connections

A separateTrigger Out connection, selectable as either a *triggered* pulse of a calibration pulse train.

Input Skew

less than 1ns, channel to channel

Input Impedance

470ohm in series with a parallel combination of 22pF and 4.7Kohm, and then a CMOS input structure. The effective input impedence is very high. Each input is also protected by ESD diodes and lightly pulled down by 47Kohm to ground

Maximum Input Voltages

+/-25V DC, +/-10V AC

Triggering

Conditions

0, 1, Rising Edge, Falling Edge, Either Edge, and DON'T CARE for all channels

Pattern Recognisers

2

Edges

Trigger on the condition becoming TRUE or on the condition becoming FALSE

Pass Count

0 to 1023

Trigger Logic

Multi-state trigger logic with Edge, Pattern, and Complex triggering. Complex triggering includes occurrence counting and minimum and maximum duration measurement

Trigger Position

5% to 95% of acquisition memory, in 5% steps
